PROFESSIONAL MUSIC PROJECT

“Damian Nasello Single Release” Project Proposal
Introduction
I have had a lifelong affinity with the mechanics of mainstream commercial popular music production, that to this day, it still captivates me. I am influenced by the 80’s pop production of Nile Rodgers (Productions, 2019) and Prince (Walser, 2019), however in the last twenty years my work is quite inspired by pop writer/producers such as Max Martin (Huey, 2019) and Ryan Tedder (Collar, 2019). The “Damian Nasello Single Release Project” provides me with the opportunity to undertake the role of executive producer and to continue on my pop songwriting and production musical quest.
Aims & Strategies
As the role of executive producer of this project, there are multiple aims, each with associated strategies, that I am working towards.
Aim 1
Combining my professional experience as a composer and studio producer to collaborate with fellow WSU musician Damian Nasello and pop vocalist Mara Duke; to produce an electronic pop single (yet to be titled) that is of a highly professional and commercial release quality standard. The single is targeted at a mainstream commercial pop audience.
Strategy 1
A timeline was produced to accommodate the schedules of Damian, Mara and myself. The pre-production phase has been completed. This involved: working out comfortable vocal ranges of both vocalists; exploring their artistic influences; combining all of this to compositionally collaborate.
Aim 2
To engineer, mix, master the single
Strategy 2
Prior to actual recording sessions, demo recordings have taken place to determine the suitability of: microphone choice for each vocalist; effectiveness of melodies and rhythms; the determination of key instrumental and production elements. The mixing and mastering phases are in accordance with the timeline. The single will be produced entirely within Logic Pro X at both the WSU studio and my own production studio “The Song Boutique”.
Aim 3
To release the single publicly
Strategy 3
This will occur via the musical distribution platform “Tunecore”. Tunecore distributes music to over “50 digital music stores and streaming services across 200 countries and territories worldwide”. Promotion of Damien & Mara as the “star performers” of our collaborative single, will occur via our combined social media platforms, Facebook, Instagram and my website “The Song Boutique”.
Aim 4
To create a video clip to accompany the single release
Strategy 4
Collaboratively with Damian & Mara, a concept for the clip will be storyboarded. I will shoot and edit the clip with a professional camera and produce the clip in Adobe Premier. The videoclip will: harness an appropriate image, commensurate with the single, to effectively market both Damian and Mara (and our single) to a wide audience demographic; be promoted via social media; uploaded to Youtube; used to bolster the release of the single. I will also pitch the video clip to both Foxtel’s music television program “MTV Upload” and ABC’s “Rage”, for potential television broadcast to the targeted demographic.
Aim 5
To premiere the single live at a public event
Strategy 5
Damian (vocals/guitar), Mara (vocals), myself (bass, keyboards & sequencer) will perform the single (with the addition of my band colleagues, Mile Abramovic (drums) and Frank Milic (guitar)), as a live band at the “Goodwill Rocking” Oxjam event, hosted by fellow WSU colleagues, Dean Cecire, Benjamin McPherson and Adam James. The single premiere is already promoted on https://oxjam.org.au/goodwillrocking
Aim 6
Pitching the single for worldwide distribution and radio airplay to independent record label “The A&R Department”. This will occur after 1st November 2019.
Strategy 6
I will utilize my pre-existing connection with the Sydney independent record label “The A&R Department”, to pitch the single to them for potential worldwide release and television & advertising synching.
Timeline
The following timeline has been created for this project:
Potential Challenges
Adhering to the timeline schedule will be my biggest challenge, given the competing demands of full-time work, family and university commitments. After passing through the pre-production phase, I am totally confident in the abilities of all personnel involved.
